NetNewsWire and Blogging
Mac Tip #327, 27 February 2008
The last few Tips have been about using NetNewsWire to read newsfeeds. It’s very common to then want to post items you read about to your own blog.
First go to the NetNewsWire preferences > Posting and choose a blogging client to work with. I use Mars Edit from Red Sweater Software.
Then things are very easy. With an item selected in NetNewsWire that you’d like to blog about, do one of the following:
- Control click and choose Post to Weblog
- Choose Post to Weblog from the News menu
- Press Command Shift P
- Click the Post to Weblog button on the Toolbar.
Your selected blogging software opens up and a new post is created with information from the NetNewsWire item.
Note: if you want to quote only a portion of a news item in your blog rather than the whole thing, then select that portion first.

I saw this after I had just done the same thing easily with just Firefox…I’d never tried it before but NetNewsWire [great application!] is set up to open selected items when I click on the main link in the window then I highlighted the portion of the website I wanted to quote from and hit the TypePad icon in the Firefox toolbar and it opened up the comment in my account and posted it there….lickety split!

I love that there are so many different yet successful ways to make these different bits of services and different services work together.
Thanks for the Firefox contribution Victoria.
