Zoom text in Eudora
A friend and I were discussing the problems of reading emails in Eudora at different times of day. I need to make text larger in the early morning and late evening.
I found an easy way to zoom text in Eudora. The following instructions only look long because I’ve written out each step. I had to choose an amount to zoom the text so there are two to choose from.
Attached: two scripts compressed into a zip archive: Eudora zoom scripts.
Instructions
Get ready
- Quit Eudora.
- Open a Finder window and go to Users >[yourname] >Library >Application Support.
- Make a new folder called Eudora.
- Open that folder and make a new folder called Scripts.
Install the scripts
- Uncompress the file called eu-zoom-buttonszip. That should create two files called eu-zoom-buttons-4.scpt and eu-zoom-buttons-8.scpt. One zooms text by 4 points, the other by 8 points
- Put eu-zoom-buttons-4.scpt and eu-zoom-buttons-8.scpt in the folder you created in Step 4.
Use the scripts
- Start up Eudora and notice a new menu item called Scripts between the Window and Help menus. You can just use a script by choosing it from that menu, or go on to the next steps.
- Command click on the Eudora toolbar. A dialog appears asking you to choose a menu item. Choose Scripts >eu-zoom-buttons-4 or eu-zoom-buttons-4 . A new button appears on the Toolbar. Add the other script too, if you wish.
- Open a received email or make a new message. To make the text larger or smaller click on the new Toolbar button you created in Step 8 and choose the action you require.

Mac Tip #253/26-July-2006
The recent series of Tips introduced you to using the social bookmarking service called Del.icio.us. In order to use Del.icio.us you need to log in.
Other web-based services requiring logins are also becoming popular: GMail, Google Calendar, Flickr, blogging services, and others. In particular, blogging is becoming very popular, and people want to take some text they’ve found on a web page and write about it on their blog, perhaps including photos from Flickr.
This modern, interactive way of using the Web has brought about a new breed of web browser, incorporating specific features to make blogging, bookmark and photo sharing easier. One of the first such web browsers is Flock.
It’s free, it’s sleek and it’s a browser I’m using a lot these days. I’ll write more about it in future tips, but I just want to continue the Del.icio.us theme for a little longer.
Provided your computer meets the requirement, download and install Flock (about 18Mb) and when you start it up for the first time it should ask you about services you can use, such as Del.icio.us. If it doesn’t then go to the Flock menu and call up the Accounts and Services… item. Click on the Favorites Sharing button in the window that appears and enter your username and password for Del.icio.us. When you’ve finished selecting options for sharing favourites you should be able to do save new favourites and visit saved favourites.
Visit a page you would like to add to your favourites, such as
With that page on screen click the Star button in the Toolbar, at the left end of the Address Bar. In the dialog box that appears enter details just as you would for Del.icio.us, then click the OK button. You have now added that page to your list of Del.icio.us bookmarks.
To visit a page you have already bookmarked choose it from the Favorites > Recent Favorites menu. If the bookmark you want is too old to appear in that menu then either choose Favorites > Manage Your Favorites or Favorites > View Favorites on The Web to access it.

Mac Tip #252/19-July-2006
If you followed the recent Tip to sign up for Del.icio.us, and you run Mac OS X 10.4. (Tiger) you may like to use Delibar to make it easier to access your Del.icio.us bookmarks. Delibar is free, but if you find it useful you may like to make a donation to its author.
Download and install Delibar. Then, if it hasn’t asked you for the account information for Del.icio.us, go to the Delibar menubar item and get the Preferences…. Enter your Del.icio.us Account name and password, then click the OK button.
You may need to choose Reload Bookmarks from the Delibar menubar item, but once it’s showing your bookmarks, you’re good to go. Click on the Delibar icon in the menubar and you’ll see all your Del.icio.us bookmarks listed, by tag. To speedily reach a tag, don’t scroll, but instead just type the first letter of the tag.
When you select a bookmark it opens in your default browser.
