MacTips is here to help you enjoy your Apple products more by teaching you how to do the practical things you want to know. Here are some ideas about how MacTips can help you most.
Leave helpful comments
If you can contribute something to a Tip, please leave a comment. You may know of another way to do something, software that can help, forums or support sites that are relevant.
Or maybe you can tell us your experience with whatever the Tip is about.
Your comments and contributions help build a valuable resource for everyone.
Contribute a Tip
While the mid-week MacTips follow a fairly rigorous structure, the weekend Tips are looser and more relaxed.
I welcome guest Tips. Contact me for information about what you need to do.
Your Tips bring a richer variety of voices and a broader reach of information. There are things you know how to do, software you use, that are outside my experience.
The main thing to keep in mind is that Tips should be practical and helpful. The audience for this site is people who are beginners or intermediate users. I reserve the right to edit contributions and to publish or not publish at my discretion.
I’m sorry, but I can’t pay for Tips. MacTips is a labour of love, funded out of my own pocket and any advertising revenues that arrive. The income from MacTips definitely doesn’t even cover my own living costs.
Tell others
Tell other people about individual Tips or the site as a whole. Tweet it, mention it on Facebook, link from your website. Tell people in emails or on any and all social networking sites. Talk about it to your friends.
Don’t spam though. We don’t like spammers.
Request or suggest a Tip
Many of my ideas for Tips have come from clients who ask me how to do something, or friends who mention a problem they’re having that can be solved by training.
Tell me what you need to know.
Note: I’m limited by the hardware and software I have. I pay for all my own equipment and software; no-one gives me anything for free. I may not be able to write a Tip if it’s about software or needs hardware I don’t have.
I’m happy to accept free stuff if it’s relevant to my work. Contact me if you have anything to offer.
Ask for Tips that answer How do I…?
MacTips isn’t a site for troubleshooting hardware or software problems, or for fixing your Mac.
Offer products and services for review or as prizes
If you have products or services relevant to people who seek out MacTips offer them for review by me (or a reader) or as prizes for a draw. Discounts are good too.
Provide a free serial number or upgrade
I pay for all my own stuff out of money I earn elsewhere. A free serial number or upgrade means I can spend more time writing MacTips and less finding work.
Send a donation
MacTips is a labour of love. Donations are always welcome. The less time I spend finding paid work the more I can focus on improving MacTips.
Pay me to train you
I can provide training on Apple products either in person or online, thanks to the magic of Skype, videos and email. Reckon on $25 per 15 minutes of quality, focused training.
I was born speaking English and live in New Zealand, an English-speaking country. Training is carried out in English.
Give a friend the gift of personal training
Sick of teaching your dad, cousin or sister how to do stuff? Give them a 15 minute online training session with me.
Reckon on $25 per 15 minutes of quality, focused training.
Employ me to write or make training videos for your business
I specialise in instructions and procedures, help files and manuals.
I also write about the Internet, technology and Macs.
My MacTips videos show what I can do with basic hardware and software.
I can write a short piece of 500 words, or a book, or anything in between. I can make a short or long video, or a series about your product.
I’ll do a single one-off job or a regular gig. Just talk to me about what you need.
