Miraz Jordan - author
I am a Wellington-based writer with a particular interest in Internet technology, where it’s going, what’s happening, and how that affects regular folks and community groups.
I write for pay — email me at miraz@firstbite.co.nz or look at highlights from my portfolio for details.
I was involved with Webstock 06 and 08. I write for and manage Webguide, write my own blog KnowIT, free weekly MacTips, and am one of the authors of WordPress 2 Visual QuickStart Guide. I recently created a new blog called Paperchains whose purpose is to help reduce the amount of wasted paper in the world and thereby reduce fuel use, pollution and other negative impacts.
I regularly use Twitter, and dip in to Facebook and LinkedIn. I sometimes uses Flickr, and watch YouTube videos, but haven’t yet created one.
In 2003 I was selected as an Exceptional Adult Educator of the Year as part of a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) initiative. That initiative was Adult Learner’s Week, designed to celebrate the efforts, achievements and contributions of adult learners, educators and providers, and to promote the importance of adult learning to the wider community.
I believe that we can all use technology such as computers and the Internet to bring change into the world, improving ourselves, others and this planet, our only home in the universe.
I enjoy watching and reading sci-fi, reading and listening to material about science and technology, and am reawakening an old love of astronomy. I love my Mac computers.
My partner Deb and I wrangle 3 cats and 2 dogs, with some success.
