iCal: edit an appointment
Mac Tip #163/08-Sept-2004

Last week I wrote about adding an appointment to iCal. Now that you have some basic information in there, it’s very easy to make changes.

First up: what say you added an appointment to your Home calendar but really it should have been on your Work calendar?

Click on the appointment in iCal and make sure the Info drawer is visible. If you can’t see it then go to the Window menu and choose Show Info. Command-i will also do the trick.

If you have an appointment selected then the Info Drawer will display everything iCal knows about the appointment. To change the appointment from one calendar to another use the calendar pop-up. Similarly, you can edit any other details by clicking on a pop-up, or on a date or time and then typing the correct details.

If you’ve entered an appointment on the wrong date or at the wrong time then you can also change it within the calendar itself. Just click on an appointment in the Day, Week or Month view and drag it. In the Month view you can only drag it to another day, but in the Week or Day views you can point to the middle of the appointment block to drag it or to a top or bottom edge to change the start or finish time by dragging.

To switch between Day, Week and Month views use the buttons at bottom left of the window or press the Command (Apple) key with 1 or 2 or 3 or visit the View menu.

And, by the way, you can always get back to “Today” by pressing Command T.
