Eudora Tip #205/12-Nov-2003
Really open that many windows?

I’ve been catching up on some unread mailing list messages recently. On selecting quite a few in order to trash them I managed by a slip of the hand to instruct Eudora to open them.

In the past this kind of accident has led to a flurry of new windows mushrooming all over my screen — to be closed in one hit with Option Command W of course.

Now, with Eudora 6, there is instead an alert:

Really open that many windows?

Really open that many windows?

You’re about to open 35 windows. Is this what you intend?

By a bit of trial and error I determined that this message would appear if I tried to open more than 10 windows. You can change this behaviour with an X-Setting of course:

<x-eudora-setting:32616>

# of windows scheduled to be opened that generate a warning

Copy this part: <x-eudora-setting:32616> into a Eudora message and double click it. Choose a number and click Set Setting.

Remember, if you’d like a list of all the X-Settings send an email to x-eudora-settings@tidbits.com. Note that the message with the settings contains plentiful clear instructions about how to use them. We can thank Adam Engst of TidBITS for this service.
