Remember Sender
Eudora Tip #192/13-Aug-2003

Recently someone emailed me: Also an option in the filter actions is “remember sender” I can’t understand what this means.

To find out, I opened up a fresh copy of Eudora on a spare computer. I added a mailbox full of messages and checked that the Address Book was empty. I created one single filter which was that if a message was filtered then Eudora should remember the sender and make the label red. I then filtered all the messages.

Sure enough, all the messages turned red. When I looked at the Address Book I found that the History List now contained the addresses of all those who had sent the messages.

While I would hate to simply add all senders to my Address Book this could nevertheless be a very handy thing to do. Perhaps you’ve just joined a mailing list with other family members, or perhaps a group you belong to. This would be an easy way to get everyone’s names into your Address Book.

Remember though that you need to follow-up by dragging the names from the History List to your main Address List. Used in conjunction with other filters this could be a very powerful filter action.
