Your Mac’s Serial Number
Mac Tip #104/04-June-2003
Sometimes you need to find your computer’s serial number. One way to find it can be to locate the actual number on the machine (not always easy to do) and then to try to read the tiny writing.
Another way is to locate the Apple System Profiler. Look in the Applications folder or the Utilities Folder (in Applications) to find it. Now double click it and go to the System Profile — Hardware Overview tab where you’ll see the Customer Serial Number.
Under recent versions of OS X you can also go to the Apple menu and get About this Mac, then click the More Info … button. That takes you to the Apple System Profiler.
But with the most recent versions of OS X you have an even easier way to find it. Go to the Apple menu and get About this Mac. Then click where it says version 10.2.6 (or whichever version you have). The first click reveals a Build Number (which specific version of 10.2.6 you have). Click again and you’ll see the serial number.
