Dots and Braces
Eudora Tip #178/07-May-2003

If you have a recent version of Eudora you should take another look at the Address Book.

When you open the Address Book you’ll see a list on the left hand side of all the addresses you have stored. Now notice the pop-up above the list which allows you to choose how to view the addresses. I have mine always set to By Nickname, but you could also choose to view the list by First Name, Last Name or various other categories

If you choose one of the Name options you might find that some entries in the list begin with …and are enclosed in braces. For example I have two entries:

Miraz Jordan

…{mirazmac}

If I click on the first (Miraz Jordan) and look at the right hand side of the Address Book I can see that the fields for First Name, Last Name and Full Name have all been completed, along with the email address.

If I click on the second (mirazmac) I can see that while this entry has a Nickname it has no First or Last Name.

It’s up to you how much information you enter for each address, but if you’re wondering what the dots and braces are about, well now you know.
