The Crashing Bore Redux
Eudora Tip #175/16-Apr-2003
Last week’s Tip brought a relative flood of emails. Thanks to all those who wrote.
David in New Zealand said:
“Another good way is to select two msgs next to each other in the in box and trash them both — one is the quirky one. It works because you are not selecting the quirky one and it doesn’t open up.”
Anna via George in Scotland wrote:
“You just transfer three messages (the dud one and the one on each side) to the Trash. Then you transfer the other two back, and empty the Trash. By highlighting a block of messages, it doesn’t appear to notice the dud one in the middle.”
Elvis, meantime, from an unknown location, added:
“I am so glad that I am not the only one that this freeze up happens to.
I finally figured out exactly the method that you did. Mine are most always from the same people. I set me up a filter where it would put all these people in a mailbox by themselves. Then I just trash the whole mailbox and then make another just like it. It works like a charm!!!”
Adam in New York and Darrel, perhaps from the US, both mentioned the Preview Pane.
“Usually you just have to close the preview pane and then transfer the message to a different mailbox. Or you can just delete it in a text editor.”
“I would also think that you could turn off the preview pane, as the reason it was crashing was that when the message was clicked, it tried to render in the preview pane. By turning it off, you could probably click on the message and then delete it.”
The notion of the preview pane being the culprit is also hinted at in David’s message above when he mentions the quirky message not opening up.
The preview pane hadn’t occurred to me, as even though I think Eudora’s the greatest I detest the preview pane and so turn it off immediately.
Anyone got any good Tips for the preview pane? Apart from turning it off :-)
