The Spool Folder

If you look in the Eudora Folder which contains your Eudora Settings you’ll find a mysterious folder called Spool Folder. What’s more, if you look inside it you might find several files — maybe a folder or two containing files such as pictures or perhaps Word or Excel documents, and perhaps Out.temp and In.temp.

If I receive a message which has a file attached and then Forward or Redirect that message then a copy of all the attachments is made in the Spool Folder. This also happens if you simply create a new message and insert (rather than attach) a picture into the body of the message.

Those copies will stay in the Spool Folder until the message they belong to (ie the one you sent) is emptied from Eudora’s trash.

This can be quite handy if you’ve lost the original document you sent someone — see if you still have a copy in the Spool Folder.

If you don’t Trash the message from Eudora then you can build up quite a lot of “dust” in the Spool Folder. Take a look at it now and again to see if you need to clean it up.

You can test all of the above by opening the Spool Folder and creating a message with an inserted file. You’ll see the folder appear. Then trash the message and empty Eudora’s trash and you’ll see the folder disappear again.
