Return Receipt
Eudora Tip #155/06-Nov-2002
Sometimes you just want to know whether the person you sent an email to received it or not. You could write in the message that you’d like a reply and then they could write you a short email referring back to the message and saying: “Got it.”
Or you could set up a Return Receipt request. Make a new message and look at the top of the message window where there is a small row of icons. One of the icons is in the form of an RR. Click that once to select it. It should now look a little different, with some shading.
When your correspondent opens your message they’ll hear a short beep and near the top of the message see a button called “Notify Sender” together with a line of writing saying: “The sender has requested notification that you have seen this”.
Once the recipient clicks the button it and the line of writing disappear.
Clicking the button creates a short message for the sender which is placed in the Out Box ready for the next mail check. My sample message to myself included this line: “Your message of Mon, 4 Nov 2002 20:44:55 +1300 regarding “test Return Receipt” has been displayed by Miraz Jordan.”
This system works well when both parties use Eudora. If the other person uses other software for their email, then all bets are off.
Try sending a message to yourself to test it out
