You have New Mail!
Eudora Tip #154/16-Oct-2002
When you receive email Eudora usually alerts you with a sound. You can control this in the Getting Attention section of the Settings (under the Special menu).
You can ask Eudora to alert you when something exciting happens (such as mail arriving or an error occurring – I’m afraid it doesn’t extend to letting you know you’ve won the lottery or that world peace has been declared).
If you have Eudora set to play a sound then lower down in that settings pane you can choose which sound you want her to use.
Eudora has 3 built-in sounds: dee-doo-dit for a warning, doo-dee-do for new mail and a bip as a short warning.
You are free to choose your own sounds though and can make your own or download some great sounds. This was very easy under OS 9 and earlier but is more tricky with with OS X.
Under OS 9 just download some suitable sounds and drop them on the System Folder.
ClixSounds make some superb sounds for your Mac, with many free sounds and a range of sounds specially for email. They provide detailed instructions about how to use the sounds (pre OS X).
Those using OS X: You’ll need to locate some sounds in the aiff format (or convert some to aiff) and put them in the folder:
/System/Library/Sounds/
You can find that folder by switching to the Finder and locating the Go menu. Choose Go To Folder and type in /System/Library/Sounds/ exactly as written here.
This page has more detailed help, but you still might encounter difficulties:
