Emptying the Trash
Eudora Tip #146/21-Aug-2002
Last week I mentioned that when you quit Eudora she’ll ask you whether or not to empty the Trash (if there’s anything in there), but that’s not always true.
Eudora gives you various settings to control the behaviour of the Trash mailbox.
Personally I like to keep my Trash mailbox empty, but I know of others who prefer to store messages in there for at least a certain amount of time.
First of all, if you have messages in your Trash mailbox you can deliberately remove them from Eudora. Either go to the Special menu and choose Empty Trash, or select one or more messages in the Trash mailbox and press the Delete key or Command D.
If you don’t want to be manually deleting messages from the Trash, then you can let Eudora handle it for you.
Go to the Special menu and choose Settings. Now scroll down to Miscellaneous and check the box beside Empty Trash on Quit. That one tells Eudora to empty out the Trash mailbox every time you quit Eudora.
Now if you quit, Eudora will advise you that there are messages in the Trash and ask if you want to empty it.
I actually rely on Eudora to empty the Trash for me so I don’t want her asking me each time if she should do so. I went to the Special menu and chose Extra Warnings, scrolled to Other and unchecked the box for Empty the Trash mailbox.
