Using Labels

How to apply labels in (probably) Mac OS 9.

Using Labels
Mac Tip #11/11-July-2001

Looking at all the documents and folders on my hard drive sometimes gives me a bit of a headache. They all look the same. How can I easily pick out the important folder of urgent work for tomorrow?

The answer is to use labels. These add colour to the icon and make it easy to spot.

Let’s suppose there is a folder called URGENT in the Documents folder.

Click once on the URGENT folder so that it is selected. Now go to the File menu and choose Label. Slide across the menu and choose a colour like red (Hot) from the list. The folder is now red and easy to spot.

Update, 2009: sorry but the movie referenced below is lost in a mysterious time-space warp.

This week’s special: You enjoyed the Tip? Now watch the movie. Visit: http://www.firstbite.co.nz/movies/

The movie’s about 50Kb and should take between 10 and 20 seconds to download with a 56K modem.
