Eudora Tip #89/11-July-2001

Way back in Tip #39 we saw that we could hold down the Option key while Checking Mail to Fetch All Message Headers to the In Mailbox. This was a handy way to sneak a peek at the mail without downloading everything.

There’s another way you can do this kind of thing, but it’s a bit harder to access.

Go to the Special Menu and choose Settings. Scroll down and click on Checking Mail. Now click on Fetch Messages Over — K. Type in the size you want. Most normal messages should be well under 40K.

Now when you check your mail only the first small part of any large messages will be collected and you’ll get a message like this at the bottom:

“WARNING: The remainder of this 50K message has not been transferred.”

Turn on the “Fetch” button in the icon bar and check mail again to get the whole thing.”

To receive the full message click the large downward pointing arrow in the top right corner of the message and then check your mail again. If you do this you’ll end up with two “copies” of the message—the partial message and the full one.

If you don’t actually want the message then click the Trash Can in the top right corner and check your mail again. The message will be deleted from the server without ever being downloaded.

If you do this you’ll still need to trash the partial message you received.
