New Year’s Tidying
Eudora Tip #64/03-Jan-2001

The start of a New Year is a great time to do some Eudora maintenance. If you haven’t backed up for a while, do it now (Tips 46 and 47)—make sure at the least to get your Settings file and your Nicknames / Address Book.

I keep an awful lot of email messages—every message I send, plus a lot of messages I receive. Now’s a good time to create some Archive mailboxes and store some of those messages in there.

See Tips 18, 20 and 21 for info on how to create mailboxes.

I’ve created an Archive folder in my mailbox list (Mailbox Menu—New and tick the box for creating a folder). Within that folder I now create mailboxes such as Out2000 or Personal2000 and I move all the relevant Year 2000 messages into them.

This year, with a stack of unread computer manuals on the shelf I’ve gritted my teeth and unsubscribed from half a dozen high traffic mailing lists. I’m going to spend the time reading those darned manuals!

First I looked in my Current Subscriptions mailbox for info on how to unsubscribe and sent the relevant messages. Then, after my unsubscription was confirmed, I deleted the mailboxes for those mailing lists.

After all this tidying, it’s a good idea to Compact your mailboxes—see Tip 38.

Now, about those older Tips. See the top or bottom of this page for links.
