Compacting mailboxes
Eudora Tip #38/08-June-2000
As Eudora adds and deletes messages some waste space builds up in mailboxes.
Try opening a mailbox—the InBox will do. Look down at the bottom left corner and you will see either 3 numbers (older versions) or 4 numbers. This is the Mailbox Size Display. If there are 4, the first number is the number of messages you have selected. The other numbers are the total number of messages stored in the mailbox, the total disc space used by the messages, and the amount of wasted space.
To reclaim that wasted disc space you can compact the mailboxes.
In older versions you need to hold down the Command key while you click on the Mailbox Size Display. If you hold down both Command and Option then Eudora will compact all the mailboxes.
In newer versions just click on the Size Display and Option click to compact all mailboxes.
