Clear the Mailboxes
Eudora Tip #37/02-June-2000

Once you start using Eudora heavily you can accumulate mail. Eudora can store a large number of messages in a mailbox, but it’s a good idea to keep the In, Out and Trash mailboxes lean or Eudora might start to groan under the load.

I empty my Trash mailbox at least daily, but some people keep their trashed messages for a while in case they need one of those messages after all. My Inbox fills up with messages I haven’t finished with yet and I keep copies of all outgoing messages so the Out box fills up very quickly.

As a rule of thumb you should probably aim to keep the messages in these mailboxes down to a couple of hundred in Trash and Out, while the In mailbox shouldn’t really be more than you can see in one screen or it becomes too easy to lose messages.

I have an archive mailbox for outwards mail for the entire calendar year and at the beginning of each new month I sort my Out mailbox into date order and move all the messages from the previous month to the archive.

As for the In Box: file, file, file and trash.
